What Happens If It Rains on Photo Day?
You check the forecast.
Rain.
Naturally, the first thought is...
"Oh no... do we have to cancel?"
Not necessarily!
Living in Washington means we learn pretty quickly that the weather likes to keep us guessing.
Forecasts change, clouds roll in, and sometimes a day that looked terrible ends up being absolutely beautiful.
That's why I don't panic when I see rain in the forecast, and you don't need to either.
The photos in this blog were taken in the rain, and it was one of my favorite sessions. If you are brave enough to embrace it (and it's not a horrible downpour) we can absolutely be brave together and take on some rain!
We Keep an Eye on the Forecast
I usually start watching the weather a few days before your session.
If it looks like we might have rain, I'll stay in touch so you're never left wondering what's happening.
Most of the time, we don't make a final decision until much closer to your session.
Washington weather has surprised me more times than I can count.
Cloudy Doesn't Mean Bad
One of the biggest misconceptions is that cloudy weather makes for bad photos.
It actually does the opposite.
Cloud cover creates soft, even light that photographs beautifully.
No harsh shadows.
No squinting into bright sunshine.
Some of my favorite galleries have been photographed on overcast evenings.
When We Do Reschedule
If it's actively raining, windy enough to make everyone miserable, or the weather just isn't going to cooperate, we'll reschedule.
Simple as that.
I want your session to be fun.
No one enjoys trying to smile through a downpour.
Flexibility Is Part of the Process
Whenever possible, I leave room in my calendar for weather reschedules.
Living in the Pacific Northwest means it's something I plan for every year.
We'll work together to find another date that fits your schedule as closely as possible.
Ready to Plan Your Family Session?
Weather is one of the few things none of us can control.
The good news is, you don't have to figure it out alone.
I'll keep an eye on the forecast, communicate with you every step of the way, and make sure we choose the best plan for your family.
Rain or shine, we'll make it happen.
